Kyle Cedermark, MD
he/him
Welcome! I am looking forward to working with you or your family member. I have been in practice for over a decade in Minnesota and have had rich experience providing care to adults, teens and children in a variety of settings. My training involves both the medical practice of psychiatry, as well as active engagement in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic training.
My background in psychodynamic work deeply informs my approach to listening, counseling, and, when appropriate, prescribing medication. I consider the impact of the unconscious, human development, intergenerational factors, family systems, culture, trauma, and stress in every patient encounter. I also tend to make use humor (when appropriate).
My training journey brought me from medical school in New Jersey to residency and fellowship at Mayo in Rochester, where I was able to gain exposure to a wide array of mental health challenges across the lifespan and in various stages of wellness. I pursued additional psychotherapy training and psychoanalytic supervision during residency and fellowship and began to appreciate the complex synergy between psychoanalytic thought and other evidence-based, and biologically active treatments.
I completed Child and Adolescent Fellowship at Mayo, which attuned me to the critical importance of understanding all humans in a developmental framework, while also deepening my respect for the complexities that all humans face as we navigate transitioning from the family and into the world.
My practice in the Twin Cities subsequently afforded opportunities to interface with children, adolescents, and adults across a full continuum of treatment settings. Given my exposure to care provided in inpatient, PHP, IOP, clinic, and residential settings, I am comfortable engaging with people wherever they are in their life challenges and treatment. I come without an agenda or judgement. I am here to help consult, support and assist the individuals with whom I work as they determine how they wish to live.
As a Clinical Leader, I have also taken on many leadership and educational roles and held an executive-level position in a large mental health organization for over 6 years. I have studied systems psychodynamics and leadership. I am fluent in the language of business and corporate culture. I am here to support clinicians and leaders as they navigate dilemmas at work and in their personal life.
As a teacher and supervisor, my passion resides in helping trainees learn to listen deeply to themselves and their patients. I seek to support growth toward bringing trainees’ authentic self into the treatment setting so they can do their best work in a sustainable fashion.
